Dated November 21, 2018 The Lom Sak Mechanical Engineering Center, Department of Highways, began and completed the construction of the Lom Sak - Chum Phae road in 1970. This was a joint assistance project between the Australian and Thai governments. The Lom Sak Center was the third mechanical engineering center in Thailand to receive assistance from the Australian government for the following purposes: 1. To construct the Lom Sak - Chum Phae road. 2. To train personnel in the use of construction machinery. The budget for the construction of the Lom Sak - Chum Phae road, including machinery, vehicles, housing, offices, workshops, etc., totaled approximately 530 million baht. The Australian government supported approximately one-third of the cost, with the remaining amount provided by the Thai government. The Lom Sak - Chum Phae road was constructed to connect the northern and northeastern regions of Thailand. It has a length of 103.400 km and took 6 years to complete. It is a standard asphalt road throughout, with a 7.00 m wide asphalt surface and 1.50 m wide shoulders on each side. This route has several interesting features. For example, the route passes through Nam Nao National Park. At kilometer 50, there is a reinforced concrete bridge with the tallest piers in Thailand, reaching 50 meters in height. At kilometer 18+500, this bridge crosses Huai Tong and was officially named "Phokhun Pha Mueang Bridge." The route required a large amount of heavy machinery to cut through the mountains, involving the excavation of 4.0 million cubic meters of earth and the blasting of another 4.5 million cubic meters of rock. This is a significant quantity considering the length of the route, as the construction involved cutting through steep and complex mountain ranges. On April 17, 1977, His Excellency Prime Minister Thanin Kraivichien, along with His Excellency the Australian Foreign Minister, Mr. Andrew Tecock, officially inaugurated the Lom Sak-Chum Phae road. Currently, it is under the responsibility of the Phetchabun Highway District, Department of Highways, and the Chum Phae Highway District. The Lom Sak-Chum Phae road, under the Department of Highways, is assigned road number 12, and the Lom Sak Mechanical Equipment Center office is located there. The Lom Sak Mechanical Engineering Center occupies a total area of 150 rai and is located at Ban Nam Duk, Pak Chong Subdistrict, Lom Sak District, Phetchabun Province, approximately at kilometer 10+000 of the aforementioned road. Currently, the Lom Sak Mechanical Engineering Center has been renamed the Lom Sak Road Construction Center according to Departmental Order No. J.1.9/2/28, effective June 24, 1985. The Lom Sak Road Construction Center office occupies a total area of 150 rai and is located at Ban Nam Duk, Pak Chong Subdistrict, Lom Sak District, Phetchabun Province, approximately at kilometer 10+000 of the Lom Sak - Chum Phae road.
